This is a budget hotel being run on a shoestring but overall the experience was pleasant and a nice base for exploring
Pros: Our room was clean and had everything that we required for a short weekend break. Conveniently located for Colchester and the surrounding area. We visited Walton on the Naze which was only a half hour drive away. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food that we had was excellent and very well presented.
Cons: There seemed to be a lot of corners being cut. Whilst the staff were really great they were run off their feet manning reception, the bar and acting as staff in the restaurant all at the same time. In the morning there was nobody to greet at breakfast so you just had to wander in and find your own way around. Cooked Breakfast selection was very limited; just bacon, sausage and scrambled egg on Saturday. When the eggs and bread ran out you had to go knocking on the kitchen door to let someone know as they were so busy they couldnβt watch the buffet bar. Also plates accumulated on tables and very little clearing up done. So whilst tables may have been empty they werenβt really available as still had the previous guests leftovers on them. Whilst tea and coffee provided in rooms most hotels, even budget ones, tend to also offer a biscuit and bottled water. No room service during the stay which for two nights wasnβt an issue but apparently itβs only available if you stay five nights or more.

Better than expected stay in Colchester
Pros: The location was very good if you have a car. If you like to walk it's a bit out the way from the town centre. The breakfast wasn't excellent however it was enjoyable. Biggest issue was the lack of staff...the girl on her own who ran reception..bar and food service was outstanding. She was let down by a colleague. The kitchen produced food for the evening menu quickly and very tasty. All in all a excellent stay
Cons: There was nothing that I didn't like. There was a few issues that ould have been improved though. A back up member of staff to help out. Better scrambled eggs as these were very dry. Individual bedside lights

Pros: It was quiet. The breakfast was very nice and hot even though the plates were cold.
Cons: The staff weren't very friendly. You had to speak to them before they would speak to you. The customer service for that reason was poor. We walked in on either the Saturday or Sunday night, and the girl on reception didn't even lift her head to speak to us. On the Monday night there was a guy on reception who was amazing. Not only did he look up and greet us when we came in, he very efficiently sorted us out with fresh towels, which we had requested with the housekeeping lady in the morning, and despite promising she would change our towels, she didn't. So 10/10 for the lovely guy on reception Monday Eve. 1/10 for the guy in the breakfast room Mon and Tues mornings. He didn't say a single word to us or even smile at us. Very poor.
